Thursday Tip: Feeling Blue? Simply MOVE

Everything in Life changes and one of our missions in life should be to live in harmony with all that is happening around us. Since we are having a human experience, this isn’t always the case – us living in perfect harmony and all that jazz. We fuss. We cry. We get angry and frustrated when things don’t turn out the way we imagined. At times, we even – dare I say it, get depressed and this is a horrible place to be.

We all have our lows, however there are times when we let our negative thoughts linger a day longer than they should. When speaking to your girlfriends or meditation hasn’t helped, this is what I want you to do – MOVE.

You will be amazed at how movement will lift your spirits in no time. You may want to stay in your pajamas, on the couch with the blinds closed, but I insist, in those lowly moments, to simply get UP – throw on some sweats, sneakers and simply move.

Movement has a way of releasing feel-good chemicals into the body that will shift your mood. “Women Dance Out Of Depression” by Disabled World ,” states that “it is known that each one of our five senses sends messages to our brain through the nerves. The brain processes these messages, after which, our body makes a reaction or execute a movement. Normally, we jump for joy when we are happy about something, and slump when we are sad. When our body does not react to the messages of the brain, we might click an emotional bomb and burst into depression.”

Now you may not want to dance so I suggest grabbing your IPOD and simply going for a walk. Get lost in the music, the scenery, the sun on your skin and the smells that tickle your nose. Step outside, literally, to get away from the trappings of your ill thoughts.

This has saved me plenty of times and I’m in awe of how stepping OUT allows me to step back, do a self-edit and gain a fresh perspective. If you can relate to this way to remedy the blues please let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
