If you know anything about me, it should be of no surprise that I wanted to get up close and personal with Dr. Nycole, after reading the title of her book, 30 Days To Greatness that deals with unleashing the greatness inside of each of us.
Thankfully, she accepted my invitation to feature her on Soul Kisses and some of her answers simply took my breath away. Her story with regard to rebuilding after reaching rock bottom resonated with me to my core and for a moment, it felt like I was looking in the mirror. You don’t have to take my word for it, you can see for yourself. :)
Your life begins when you fall in love with Who You Truly Are. Life becomes so much clearer. What steps do you think a person needs to take in order to realize their innate greatness?
Falling in love with who you truly are is a message in which I place major emphasis on spreading. One of the greatest gifts that we can give ourselves is the gift of true, authentic and unconditional love. We give love to so many people in our lives and often times we give ourselves what is left. This is an extreme no-no! In addition, we expect others to love us as we love them and there are times when the love is reciprocated and then there are other times when the love is not; leaving us to feel unfulfilled to say the least. When we fall in love with the true us that we live with daily, we then will have no need to feel a void and or a feeling of emptiness because we then give us the true us that we need.
In terms of steps to realizing innate greatness, one needs to be able to do self-reflection without covering up areas in their life that they would like to forget. There is a true blessing not only in realizing the greatest parts of us but moreover realizing the parts of us, which are not comfortable to deal with. These parts may be past hurts, neglect, misfortunes, mistakes and/or adversity. When we are able to reflect upon what we have been through in our lives and the fact that we are still alive physically, mentally and spiritually then we know for a fact that there is something within us far greater than what we have experienced that causes us to fight for greater even when we don’t know we are fighting. Greatness far exceeds merely being good. That which is within you that causes you to triumph in the face of adversity and won’t allow you to settle for just good enough is what we call Greatness.
Everyone has been hurt or broken in some way. How did you become whole again and what advice can you offer to others to get back on track?
Hurt seemed to be something that was extremely common place for me and it came most times via my relationships with men. One of the hardest things I fought with was the fact that I was giving far more than I was receiving. The more I gave it seemed the less I received in the area of honor, respect and faithfulness. This cut like a knife every single time but what got me back on track was when I realized that I allowed my hurt to make me hit rock bottom. I no longer was angry or bitter with those who hurt me I was angry and bitter with myself for allowing them to cause me feel worthless and less than. I had to get to a point where I had nowhere to go but up. I had to allow the Lord to Re-Build Me and when He did, He showed me the beautiful woman that I am not only outside but also inside. He allowed me and made me fall deeply and madly in love with me; flaws in all. My advice is, you must get to know who you truly are and what you truly need and you must give you the you that you need. All of you! You must fall in love with you and have a place deep within that no one can penetrate or take away from you; self-love at its finest!
What inspired your second book, “30 Days To Greatness: An Inspirational Journey To The Greatness In You and what is a single takeaway you would love for readers to walk away with?
As many people know I leave empowering and inspiring messages on my Facebook Walls daily. Whatever I feel will help me make it through the day or present hour, I share it with my FB Friends and Followers in hopes that they will have a greater day that day than the day before. I was sent an inbox, which asked me why I hadn’t written a book about Greatness. Shortly following this inbox by mother asked me the very same question and this was confirmation for me.
The single takeaway, I want my readers to walk away with is, in spite of what you have been through these very things can work for you instead of against you causing you to reach greater levels in life if you simply change your perspective.
You are currently working on another book that has to deal with walking away from unhealthy relationships. What inspired you to write this book? What were you witnessing in the world that you felt compelled to write such a much-needed book?
The fact that I have been in and through various abusive relationships (verbal, emotional and physical) caused me to think that I was the only one dealing with the issue of walking away. It wasn’t until I became transparent enough to begin to share my real-life stories with other women that I knew that there was something that needed to be done. I felt compelled to give critical real-life steps to walking away from unhealthy relationships coupled with reasons for doing so.
In addition to bringing healing to many via your love of writing. You are an educator in several ways. You are a teacher as well as an evangelist. When did you know this was your calling?
I knew I had a calling to teach and reach the masses when I felt like I could no longer sit in a class or under teaching without feeling like I was going to burst with insight that I had bubbling on the inside of me. My thoughts would race back and forth about varying views in which I had on the topic at hand. I knew that was something greater inside of me that had to be released for the purpose of helping others. In the year of 2006 I suffered a near death experience through an ectopic pregnancy. I was 24 hours from death. When I made it through that situation, I told the Lord that I would speak and preach His word and I would no longer run from what He deposited in me. This new lease on life caused the greater in me to be kicked up a few thousand notches.
As a creative individual, what has been the most successful tactic in spreading the word about all the wonderful goodness you are bringing to the world?
The most useful tactic for me has been the use of various social media outlets. Through social media outlets such a Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs and so much more I have been able to spread the empowering message of Greatness and Inspiration on a large scale. I am so ecstatic and grateful for the opportunity to do so!
If you could offer any advice to help people design their best life, what would it be?
Know who you are free from other people’s opinions. Know what you want out of life and GO and get it. Take the breaks off of yourself. Know that you deserve the best but sometimes the best comes to those who get out of the boat and walk on water. Finally, I live by this quote in which I developed on December 31, 2010 after dealing with a severe tragedy, “What hasn’t killed you never will therefore LIVE!”
What can we expect from Dr. Lyles-Belton in 2011 and beyond?
You can expect for Dr. Nycole P. Lyles-Belton to continue to reach the masses in an even greater way by spreading the Empowering Message of “There is Greatness In You” and Jesus still heals, delivers and sets free! This will be done via Books, Preaching, Speaking, Gospel Hip Hop, Singing, Blogs, Websites and any and all available Avenues.
